Red Rhino Red
Pygmalion’s Art Supplies is pleased to announce Red Rhino Red, our new Custom Color for 2017.
Red Rhino Red is our eighth custom oil color, and the seventh made for us by Gamblin Artist Colors.
As was true of all of our past Custom Colors, all proceeds from the sale of Red Rhino Red benefit a local non-profit organization. Rhino’s Youth Center, a creative art and music space for local teens, is this year’s beneficiary. As the color’s name suggests, Red Rhino Red was created with this valuable local resource in mind.
Red Rhino Red is a unique semi-transparent red made of a mixture of three different red pigments. It is a crimson lake color, a chromatic red color tending toward pink. Phil Cardenas created the color, and Raphael Cornford drew the rhino used for the logo. Both Cardenas and Cornford are accomplished local artists and Pygmalion’s employees.
Like our past Custom Colors, Red Rhino Red is a limited edition offering: once it’s gone, it’s gone! At $8.95 per tube it is a great value for an artist’s grade oil color.
Red Rhino Red T-Shirts are now available! Heather gray 90% cotton 10% poly, available now in sizes Small through XXL. Only $9.99 each. Please click on photo gallery below to see image.
While supplies last, we are also pleased to offer a set of our three most recent Custom Colors for only $20. The set includes Red Rhino Red, Saffron, and Cat's Tail. For more information, or to order a set, please contact the store.
Along with creating and selling Red Rhino Red, Pygmalion’s continued its tradition of hosting a one-night show of artwork made with the year's Custom Color on Wednesday, April 19, from 5 to 9 PM. Local and regional artists submitted their Red Rhino Red artwork, and juror John Domont awarded over $500 in cash prizes and Pygmalion's gift certificates to several artists' entries. It was a fun evening, with a delicious buffet, and wonderful artwork throughout the store. Photos from the event, along with local artist Jim Sampson's swatches showing color mixtures with Red Rhino Red, may be seen below.
